Brokatowy magnes / A glittery magnet

Dość długo trzymałam się z daleka od brokatów. Do ponownego sięgnięcia po błyszczące drobinki zachęcił mnie nowy brokat Distress w kolorze Vintage Platinum. No i poszłam na całość - jak obsypywać, to porządnie, nie? ;) Więcej o powstawaniu na blogu Retro Kraft Shop. 

I've been shying away from glitter for a while now. What motivated me to go sparkly again was the Distress line Vintage Platinum dust. And so I went all in - when sprinkling, do it thoroughly, right? ;) More on the making of on the Retro Kraft Shop blog. 

Nieperfekcyjny shadowbox / Imperfect shadowbox

Jak się czasem zachłysnę jakimś nowo-znalezionym produktem, to aż się praca sama robi. Tak było jak w ręce mi wpadły te laleczki i wszystkie trzy są już zużyte. Dziś pokazuję co się stało z jedną - wylądowała wewnątrz shadowboxa - nieperfekcyjnego, bo i laleczce brakuje rączek, i buteleczka nierówno przyklejona - ale o to chodziło. :) Więcej o projekcie znajdziecie na blogu Retro Kraft Shop. 

Sometimes I get crazy about a newly-found product and then the work just seems to be going all on its own. That's what it was like when I got hold of these dolls and all three have already been used up. Today I'm sharing the first one, which found its way into a shadowbox - an imperfect one, as the doll's missing its arms and the bottle is all crooked - but that was the point. :) For more info on the project you can hop over to the Retro Kraft Shop blog.

Art journal: Chemiczne opary / Chemical fumes

Na blogu SanDee&amelie's Steampunk Challenges rusza nowe wyzwanie, a ja przychodzę z mediową steampunkową inspiracją. Ten wpis do art journala to efekt zabawy z jednym zestawem stempli Stampers Anonymous i farbami Media Fluid Acrylics w połączeniu z wodą.

At SanDee&amelie's Steampun Challenges we're opening a fresh monthly challenge and here I come with a mixed media steampunk inspiration. This art journal entry is the effect of playing around with a set of Stampers Anonymous stamps and Media Fluid Acrylics in combination with water.

Tło najpierw pokryłam kremową farbą Titan Buff, następnie przez trybikową maskę nałożyłam farbę w kolorze Burnt Sienna. Żeby ujednolicić tło, na trybiki nałożyłam kolejną warstwę Titan Buff, tym razem rozwodnionego, co nadało mu transparentności. Następnie nastemplowałam wzory i sięgnęłam po kolor Quinacridone Gold, który stwarza piękny efekt rdzy. Na górze nakładałam farbę miękkim pędzlem i psikałam wodą, by stworzyć zacieki, a na dole pomalowałam przybory chemiczne rozwodnioną farbą w tym samym kolorze. I oto jest - chemik w oparach rdzy. ;)

I first covered the background with Titan Buff and then applied Burnt Sienna through a gears stencil. To smooth the pattern, I then put on another layer of Titan Buff, this time watered down for some transparency. Next came the stamping and then I grabbed the awesome Quinacridone Gold, which is great for rust effects. At the top I applied the paint with a soft brush and sprayed with water and at the bottom I painted the containers with the same colour, watered down. And here he is - my chemist in rusty fumes. ;)

 

Zimowo-kwiatowy media shadowbox / Wintery-flowery mixed media shadowbox

Jak zaczęłam cracklować, tak nie mogę przestać. :) Ten shadowbox - będący inspiracją do mroźnego wyzwania na blogu Retro Kraft Shop - to efekt zabawy z kombinacją dwóch mediów Deco Art: Weathered Wood i Crackle Paint. 

Once I started crackling, I can't stop. :) This shadowbox - an inspiration project for the frosty challenge at the Retro Kraft Shop blog - is the effect of playing around with a combo of two Deco Art media: Weathered Wood and Crackle Paint.

Weathered Wood jest preparatem, który tworzy nieco inny od zwyczajowego efekt spękań - bardziej przypominający starą farbę złażącą z popękanego drewna. Tu - zdjęcie zrobione podczas ostatniego urlopu, pod wypływem skojarzenia z tym efektem właśnie. :)

Weathered Wood is a medium which creates a crackling effect slightly different from the typical one - resembling more of old paint peeling off cracked wood. Below is a photo I took on my last holiday, under the influence of the connotation with this very effect. :)

Crackle Paint natomiast tworzy typowy, dość delikatny efekt spękań. Technika, której użyłam w boxie łączy te dwa preparaty, sprawiając, że efekt crackle jest zdwojony.

Crackle Paint, in turn, creates a more typical, rather delicate crackling effect. The technique I used in the box combines the two media, resulting in something of a double crackle.

Standardowo, Weathered Wood nakłada się na jedną warstwę farby akrylowej i pokrywa warstwą farby w innym kolorze - drugi kolor to ten dominujący, a w spękaniach pojawia się kolor pierwszy. Farba akrylowa jest więc tym, co 'aktywuje' działanie preparatu. Ale co jeśli chcemy użyć na spodzie, powiedzmy, tuszy Distress? Efekt widać na fioletowych przegródkach i kwiatkach, które pokryłam właśnie tymi tuszami, a następnie Weathered Wood. Na wierzch nałożyłam Crackle Paint, które - w zastępstwie farby akrylowej - podziałało jako aktywator dla Weathered Wood, sprawiając, że Crackle Paint nabrało charakteru 'spękanego drewna' bardziej niż 'typowego' efektu crackle.

Typically, Weathered Wood is applied on one layer of acrylic paint and covered with a layer of paint in a different colour - the second one is the dominant one and the cracks show the first colour. Acrylic paint is then what 'activates' the magic of the crackling medium. But what if we want to use something else at the bottom, say, Distress Inks? You can see the effect on the small boxes and the flowers, which I covered with inks, and then Weathered Wood. I applied Crackle Paint at the top and it was this medium which - as a replacement for acrylic paint - activated Weathered Wood, making Crackle Paint itself gain an 'old wood' effect.

W tle widać natomiast czary jakie dzieją się jeżeli jako warstwę pierwszą położymy farbę akrylową (następnie Weathered Wood i Crackle Paint). To się dopiero nazywa super spękanie. :)

In the background, you can see the magic that happens when the first layer is acrylic paint (then Weathered Wood and Crackle Paint). That's what I call super crackle. :)

Nowy rok, nowe wyzwanie i niewidzialna woda :) / A new year, a new challenge and invisible water :)

W ramach świętowania zdecydowałyśmy pobawić się mediowo i pokazać techniki, których użyłyśmy. Ja stworzyłam wpis w art journalu, gdzie bawiłam się w tworzenie efektu wody.

To celebrate, we decided to go all mixed media and put a spotlight on some of the techniques we used. I created an art journal page where I played around with a water effect.

Wodę stworzyłam rozprowadzając przezroczysty preparat do spękań Crackle Glaze - jest gęsty i ładnie dał się poprowadzić tam, gdzie chciałam. Po wyschnięciu podkreśliłam go za pomocą białego Antiquing Cream, rozprowadzając go po całej spękanej powierzchni, a potem lekko ścierając, by pozostał tylko w spękaniach. W ten sposób przezroczysty Crackle stał się bardziej widoczny i voila - przezroczysta, a jednak dość widoczna woda. :)

I created the water using the transparent Crackle Glaze medium - it's thick and so I was able to spread it where I wanted it. After it dried, I highlighted it using white Antiquing Cream, covering the entire glazed area with it and then gently wiping it off so that it only stayed in the cracks. This way the transparent Crackle Glaze became more visible and voila - transparent, but still visible water. :)

Kominek wiedźmy / A witch's fireplace

Po pierwsze - baza kominka od Snip Art to jest po prostu odkrycie miesiąca.

Po drugie - nie mogę się odkleić od preparatu Weathered Wood.

Firstly - the fireplace base from Snip Art is the discovery of the month.

Secondly - I can't get my hands off the Weathered Wood crackling medium.

I znów mam fazę na wiedźmowate, ciemne tematy. Może to przez przesyt świątecznych piosenek. ;)
And again I feel drawn to the dark and the witchy. Maybe it's the surplus of Christmas songs. ;)

No nie mogę się nazachwycać tymi spękaniami - tutaj w wydaniu z użyciem Media Fluid Acrylics Carbon Black i Burnt Sienna.

Steampunkowe serce / A steampunk heart

Na blogu SanDee&amelie's Steampunk Challenges w listopadzie i grudniu trwa wyzwanie 'anything goes' (jedną z nagród do wygrania funduje Retro Kraft Shop, więc tym bardziej zapraszam :) ). Na blogu wyzwaniowym prezentujemy dziś drugą pulę inspiracji - ja poszłam tym razem w stronę świąteczną i stworzyłam steampunkowe serce-bombkę.

In November and December at SanDee&amelie's Steampunk Challenges we're having an 'anything goes'-themed challenge (one of the prizes to win is from my little Retro Kraft Shop, so I encourage you to join even more warmly :) ). On the blog today you can see the second round of inspirations - this time I decided to go festive and created a steampunk heart-shaped Christmas decoration.

Doszłam do wniosku, że złote elementy zegarowe to bardzo naturalnie świąteczny dodatek i stworzyłam na sercu kombinację z trybików i żarówki.

I came to the conclusion that gold clockwork is a natural Xmassy embellishmemt and crated a gear and bulb composition in the centre of the heart.

Piękne spękania w tle powstały dzięki preparatowi Weathered Wood DecoArt. Najpierw nałożyłam zieloną farę akrylową Media Fluid Acrylic Viridian, po wyschnięciu preparat, a na koniec farbę czerwoną Quinacridone Red z tej samej serii, która dzięki preparatowi pięknie popękała (tak preparat, jak i farby już lada chwila pojawią się w Retro Kraft Shop, więc między innymi na nie będzie można wydać wygraną w wyzwaniu :) ). Czas na dołączenie do zabawy aż do końca grudnia. :)

The beautiful crackling of the background was created with DecoArt's Weathered Wood. First I applied green Viridian Media Fluid Acrylic, then after drying the crackling medium and finally the Quinacridone Red acrylic from the same line, which crackled beautifully (both the crackling medium and the paints will soon appear in Retro Kraft Shop, so it's one of the things you could spend the challenge prize voucher on :) ). Time to join the challenge fun is till the end of December. :)
